Back road adventure day rides

Enjoy sections of The Great Taste Trail and quiet country back roads, to find that road less travelled. Allow us to take you to places most people don’t know exist.

Experience the tranquility of the countryside, hop gardens, orchards, majestic rivers, with a stunning backdrop of Kahurangi National Park. Many of our routes also pass artisans’ studios and galleries. All this and yet never too far away from a coffee stop!

This is an ideal day ride if you enjoy more challenging ride, with a few hills and the cycling is more important than the stops.

Bike hire, helmet, pannier day bag, route maps. Pick up from local accommodation in the Mapua/ Ruby Bay area or meet us at Mapua village.Transfer to the start of your route.
Electric bikes available for an additional charge.

"My two friends and I did a self guided cycling tour today from Riwaka to Mapua which was brilliant. We contacted Nicki, the owner, quite late yesterday and she was very accommodating. What was even better was that she had a bike that fitted my 6’10” friend. The service was brilliant; Nicki picked us up and drove us to Riwaka and dropped us off with the bikes. She talked through the route with us and at the end, she met us back at our accommodation to pick up the bikes. The route and day was lovely with a few rolling hills but nothing overly steep. Overall the route was fairly flat and Nicki was accurate with her description of the route. Furthermore there were plenty of places to stop along the way. A fantastic day out cycling in the sun in a beautiful part of New Zealand."

"We rented e-bikes and a kid trailer for the day to haul our baby and 3 year old along the Great Taste Trail. Nicky was personable, helpful, and using WF’s service was a delight. She met us at our pickup point with bikes, maps, suggestions, and discount coupons. Simply send a text message 15 minutes before arrival at finish line and Nicky is there and waiting. Bikes and trailer were good quality (e-bikes make it super easy to haul the trailer up the hills) and we couldn’t have asked for more! We had an incredibly fun day taking our time along the trail - enjoying the scenery, sites, and cafes. Don’t be put off from cycling if you have little ones. Wheelie Fantastic make it so easy and convenient. Our only regret is that we didn’t set aside more days to cycle."
