Professionally maintained bikes

Our fleet of professionally maintained bikes are available to help you enjoy one of our day rides or multi-day tours.

All day tours should be pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance with a phone call, or preferably by email. Due to the high level of service we offer and preparation required for each tour, we no longer operate a walk-up service.

As more sections of The Great Taste Trail are completed, many people are enjoying our Multi-day cycle tours as well as Day Tours. Using our local knowledge, we create an itinerary to suit you, or you can select from one of our ready to ride tours.

Trail bikes & gravel adventure bikes

Our adult bikes are comfort trail bikes and flat bar gravel adventure bikes. The trail bike offers a more upright riding position and provides a comfortable ride. They are designed to cope equally well with road and trail surfaces. Our gravel adventure bikes have a more sporty riding position, with narrower saddles. The trail bikes are also available as electric bikes with top of the range pedal assist Bosch motors and long-lasting batteries.

As well as our fleet of adult trail bikes, we also have children’s bikes and child trailers.

What's Included

Each bike comes with a helmet ( NZ safety approved), you are welcome to use your own if you prefer, a bike lock and a pannier bag
Each group will also be given an inner tube replacement kit and pump, however even if you are on a self-guided tour, we are only a phone call away should you need any help.
Each self-guided day tour includes a route map and vouchers if relevant to the tour.
Multi-day tours come with a tour pack that contains route maps, detailed route notes, a Wheelie fantastic 'Eats and Treats' booklet as well as relevant discount vouchers.
Each multi-day tour group gets a goody bag which includes some of the locally made tasty treats that are easy to take with you on a bike ride.
Note that we no longer give out plastic water bottles, as we don't want to add to the amount of stuff that most people don't need. We realise that most people now prefer to bring and use their own. If you are not travelling with a water bottle we can sell you a re-usable metal one.
If you are on a guided tour we can top up your water bottle with local water.

"My husband and I rented bikes for 2 days. Nicky picked us up at our accommodation on the Kina Peninsula and dropped us and the bikes off in Woodstock so that we could bike back to our accommodation on the Great Taste Trail. She gave us her business card with her cellphone number in case we had any problems. On the second day, we biked from our accommodation to Richmond through Rabbit Island on another section of the Great Taste Trail and then back to Wheelies Fantastic in Mapua where we returned our bikes. Nicky then drove us back to our accommodation where we picked up our rental car as we had had to check out before 10:00am. Nicky provided us with excellent directions and maps and recommendations for places to stop. The bikes were very well maintained. Very professional and friendly service."

"We hired cycles from these guys over three different days recently. They were friendly, efficient and offered suggestions to enhance our experience which we took on board. The bikes were superb for both our inexperienced and experienced group and fitted to each individual. The hire included panniers, helmets, puncture repair kit and although we didn't plan on it - a speedy pickup and delivery to A&E in Nelson (and home again) for one of our riders who came to grief on the trail one day. We also arranged a shuttle and trailer for each day to collect us or drop us off at our start or finishing point. Nothing was too much trouble and they are really great at arranging bespoke tours including gourmet picnic hampers if you ask."

"We phoned in the morning to reserve bikes for the family and when we arrived in Mapua an hour or so later they were all prepared, ready and waiting for us (helmets, saddlebags and all). Nicky provided us with maps and advice on the rides on the island and also on restaurants, vineyards, and everything else in the area when we returned the bikes. All of which were great recommendations. Bike hire price was very reasonable and in the bikes themselves were great (with very comfortable seats). Can't recommend Wheelie Fantastic highly enough."

"We were staying in Mapua for a week and hired bikes for all the family for two separate days. Nikki provided a friendly helpful service at a good rate. The bikes were sized well, in good condition and ideal for the terrain (gravel tracks mostly on the Taste Trail). Helmets, maps, cycle locks and a spare inner-tube were provided, (no punctures). Paniers on a couple of the bikes were very useful. Two good days out, venturing East and West on the Taste Trail."
